The story surrounding the marriage of Diana and Prince Charles is not unknown to the general public. The two married each other, had two beautiful children, but the love between the two quickly cooled. Charles’s heart already belonged to someone else and his marriage to Diana made no difference.

That Prince Charles kept in touch with Camilla Parker-Bowles for years during the marriage to Diana is nothing new. After having previously been in a relationship with each other, they broke up at some point in time. Despite the fact that both had started a new relationship and tied the knot, the two continued to visit each other. Diana’s statement: “there were three of us in this marriage, so it was a bit busy” needs no further explanation.

Despite the high pressure on the relationship, Diana managed to hold her own. She took her role seriously, threw herself into charity projects and won the hearts of many. She also became a pop culture icon. Yet her children were the most important thing in her life. Diana has always wanted to minimize the involvement of nannies or relatives who could babysit. She made sure she was the one to take care of the kids. Her schedule was therefore fully adapted to this. Diana wanted to be involved in the lives of William and Harry and did everything she could to make it happen.

After Prince Charles and Diana’s divorce, Diana had her car accident. The death of the former princess hit like a bomb.

Relationship with Camilla

When Prince Charles resumed his relationship with Camilla in 2005, the world was in turmoil. Diana has always been loved by the public and the rumors that Charles hadn’t always treated her nicely didn’t help during the announcement of the new relationship. Many people had the feeling that Camilla was taking Diana’s place. Still, marrying Camilla was what made the prince happy. Something his sons, William and Harry, also benefited from.

When Harry publicly stated that Camilla wasn’t a mean stepmother, the audience calmed down. Still, there were more children involved. Camilla herself had also had a marriage and two children. The fact that Camilla has a son is known to the public. Her daughter, on the other hand, not may people have heard of.

Camilla’s son, Tom Parker-Bowles, has never had a problem with the spotlight. He is a respected food critic and writer. He also regularly appears on British television. He has made several notable visits to Masterchef and assisted chef Gordon Ramsay on the television show The F-word. His sister however had a much harder time in the spotlight and for a good reason…

Laura Lopes

Laura Lopes is Camilla’s daughter. Despite occasionally attending important events such as weddings, she prefers to stay in the background. Even when she attended important events, she made sure she was incognito.

The reason for this is her experiences with the British press during her childhood. Because Camilla has always been watched by the British press, both Laura and Tom grew up with the press surrounding them. Despite Charles being married to Diana when Laura and Tom were still children, rumors circulated about Camilla’s relationship with Charles. Something that got the press interested in Camilla.

Because of this, Tom and Laura had to deal with paparazzi on the regular and this is something that especially Laura had a hard time with. The press had it out for them, and Tom is very open about his experiences with the photographers: “They are bullies. All I wanted to do was punch them in the face but I couldn’t.” Despite her brother’s open attitude, Laura took the opposite approach. She tried to shield herself away from the limelight.

Making sacrifices

Laura’s flight from her life in the limelight was not without a struggle. She had to make sacrifices for this. For example, she had to distance herself from her family so that the press would pay less attention to her. Something that was of course not always easy for her mother. Laura has now built a family for herself from which she gets a lot of love.
