Why Princess Kate will no longer wear a tiara this year
Kate is slowly working on her return. The princess is expected to make another public appearance next week during Qatar’s state visit to the United Kingdom. Although such a state visit often involves a state banquet – and thus means tiara time – we need not assume that Catherine will pull a tiara from the royal wardrobes. Kate is, in fact, skipping the banquet.
Kate’s comeback is getting closer and closer, and her schedule is slowly filling up again. Next week, she and Prince William will greet Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and the first of his three wives, sheikha Jawaher bint Hamad bin Suhaim Al Thani, at Kensington Palace.
Reception Committee
Indeed, during Qatar’s state visit, she and William will serve as a reception committee on behalf of the king and queen. William and Kate will receive the Qatari monarch at Buckingham Palace. Together with the visit, they will then travel to the Horse Guards Parade, where a ceremonial welcoming ceremony will be held. The delegation – including Charles and Camilla – then returns in a royal carriage ride to Buckingham Palace, where a second guard of honor awaits them. A grand and royal welcome, in other words!
Although Kate will be involved in the day’s components of the state visit, she will not attend the state banquet at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday evening.
Busy schedule
And so that means any tiara moment for the princess will be off. After all, state banquets are usually one of the few events where a royal is allowed to wear a tiara. Anyway, Kate is busy enough that week, as the princess is busy with very different things: the following week her annual Together At Christmas service takes place!
Last week Kate also missed a tiara moment, then during diplomatic reception at Buckingham Palace. Queen Camilla did wear a tiara then. It seems there are no more potential tiara moments for the princess to come this year. Let’s hope that next year she will just be everywhere again!
