The special meaning behind Kate’s Christmas accessory

This past weekend, Princess Catherine hosted the annual Together at Christmas Carol Service at Westminster Abbey. Naturally, the princess again looked radiant and festive – with a very special symbol incorporated into her outfit.

After an eventful year, Princess Kate was fortunately able to host her annual Christmas concert after all. Together with Prince William and of course George, Charlotte and Louis, the Princess of Wales beamed at Westminster Abbey. And she did so in a special outfit, with an emotional meaning.

Christmas concert

Together at Christmas began during the pandemic as an atmospheric, together Christmas concert with Princess Kate as hostess. Since then, the recurring music fest at Westminster Abbey has grown into an annual Christmas tradition, the fourth edition of which took place this weekend.

Bringing Christmas wishes, singing carols and lighting candles: it was old-fashioned atmosphere again in Westminster Abbey!

Black bow tie

For the occasion, Kate dressed in an Alexander McQueen coat that she has had for some time. Underneath, she wore a tartan skirt by Emilia Wickstead with a black sweater and a set of chic black heeled boots by Ralph Lauren.

Especially for this year’s Christmas concert, Kate had decorated her coat with a striking accessory: a a black bow tie. And several royalty connoisseurs see that bow as a symbolic gesture. There is speculation that the bow is a subtle reference to the ribbons worn as a sign of support for people with various forms of cancer.

Although the princess herself has not confirmed anything about this symbolism behind her outfit, we can well imagine that her bow was indeed a thoughtful choice. Andne – even if that is not the case, at least the velvet accessory looks stunning!

The Waleses had their outfits neatly matched, by the way, as Princes William, George, Louis and Princess Charlotte also showed off their looks with a red trim. For example, the gentlemen each wore a red tie, and Princess Charlotte appeared at the Abbey in her burgundy Trotters coat.

Last night it finally happened: after a rough year, Princess Kate was able to continue her annual Christmas concert after all. Together with Prince William and of course Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, the Princess of Wales was beaming last night at Westminster Abbey.

Cancer diagnosis

It was, of course, a tough year for Catherine and her family. After gossip and speculation, news broke in March of this year that Princess Kate had been diagnosed with cancer. The cancer was discovered after she spent two weeks in a private clinic in London in January because of abdominal surgery. In the months that followed, the princess took it easy, and initially many of her engagements were canceled because of the treatment. Gradually she reappeared in public more often, giving many people hope for recovery. And that proved to be the case in September, when the princess announced she had completed her chemotherapy.

Meanwhile, we have seen Kate appear more and more often at events and visits, with the icing on the cake, of course, being the Together at Christmas service last weekend. Of course, we hope that she will be able to make more and more frequent appearances next year – but for now, let’s celebrate Christmas with the family!
